Microsoft is gradually adding more and more features in Windows 10 to enhance user experience. Many features of Windows 10 from Microsoft Edge to Cortana, you may have already noticed and using them. But there is always a lot of things to learn about Microsoft Windows 10. Windows 10 has many hidden features and tricks that you may not aware of. These Windows 10 hidden features are very useful and worth noting.

Enable GOD Mode in Windows 10

You may already know God mode as it already existed in previous Microsoft windows version. GOD mode can be better termed as “Windows Control Panel Shortcut”. On enabling GOD mode it gives easy accessibility to all Windows Settings from just one folder. Just click on God mode folder and it shows all windows settings in properly categorized way. Save Space by Hiding Cortana

You may well aware of Windows 10 Cortana, a virtual assistant developed by Microsoft for Windows 10 that works across devices and many windows apps. Cortana is very useful tool for getting things done easily, but you may not want to use Cortana all the time. Cortana search box takes space on the Taskbar so if you are not using it all the time, you can hide it. Either you can get rid of Cortana completely by hiding it or you can place just the Cortana icon on the Taskbar instead of Cortana search box.Hide Cortana

To hide Cortana from Taskbar, right click on any empty space of Taskbar. From opened menu, select Cortana > Hidden.

For placing only Cortana icon on the Taskbar, select Cortana > Show Cortana icon from menu.

Any time, you can bring back default Cortana search box on the Taskbar by right clicking on empty area of the Taskbar and select Cortana > Show Search BOX.

Auto Hide Taskbar in Windows 10

Auto hiding Taskbar is an awesome Windows 10 trick. Once enabled, Windows 10 hides taskbar automatically, giving full screen view. Taskbar reappears when mouse is moved to that edge of the screen where Taskbar resides(screen Edge where taskbar in your Windows 10 is positioned) and gets hidden again once mouse is moved away from the Taskbar. So Windows 10 hides the Taskbar most of the time yet its still remain available all the time when ever you need it.

This Windows 10 hidden feature is especially useful for small screens as it gives full screen space by temporary hiding Taskbar.

To Enable Auto Hide feature in Microsoft Windows 10, follow these steps.

  • Right Click on any empty area of Taskbar.Open Taskbar Settings
  • Select “Taskbar Settings” from opened menu.
  • Switch on “Automatically Hide the Taskbar in Desktop Mode” or “Automatically Hide the Taskbar in Tablet Mode” option from Taskbar Settings. You can enable both options as well as any one depends on your need.Auto Hide Taskbar
  • Once enabled, Taskbar gets hidden automatically when screen cursor is away from the Taskbar.

Show Desktop Button

You may not noticed yet that there is a very sleek secret button in rightmost corner of Microsoft Windows 10 Taskbar. On clicking, it switches between opened windows and windows desktop. So whenever you work on multiple apps and want to access something from desktop or just want to peek at desktop, instead of minimizing all apps one by one, you can just click on or hover over rightmost corner button of Taskbar to switch or peek at desktop. When user clicks this rightmost sleek button, it switches between Desktop and opened Windows whereas when user just hover over this button, it shows preview of desktop(peek at desktop).Show Desktop Button

Another way to Show Desktop is through Taskbar menu, which appears when you right click on Taskbar. So you can right click on any empty area of Windows 10 Taskbar, and click on “Show the Desktop” or “Show Open Windows” from Menu. On clicking “Show the Desktop” it switches to Windows Desktop. Next you sees “Show open Windows” option in Taskbar menu. On clicking it switches to the opened Windows.Show Desktop

Pin Folders for Quick Access in Windows 10

By Default Microsoft Windows 10 File Explorer shows “Navigation pane” in left side. This navigation pane contains “Quick Access” items at top which lets you to quickly access the folders you need to access mostly.  Quick access feature automatically recognizes and lists folders that you use frequently and recently as well as folders that you have pined.

Here are the steps to pin folders to “Quick Access” in Windows 10.

  • Open File Explorer.
  • From File Explorer navigate to folder that you want to pin to quick access.
  • Right click on folder, select “Pin to quick Access”.

Anytime you can unpin folders from “Quick Access”. To unpin folder right click on it and select “Unpin from Quick Access”.

Focus Assist

Microsoft Windows 10 notifications, alerts and sounds distracts us from the work we are doing. For instance, when you are giving presentation in some meeting from your device, obviously you would not like the notifications to pop up in middle of presentation. There can be many reasons you may want to focus on the work you are doing in your device and don’t want to get distracted by notifications. Windows 10 Focus assist feature allows to block the unwanted notification allowing only important alerts or notification to pop up as per rule set by you.

Focus assist lets you to block notifications, alerts, sounds easily by setting rules. It gives you flexibility to choose when to block interruptions as well as flexibility to create priority list which can break through for whom you always want to reach you any time.

After setting rules from Focus assist setting, you can easily turn it on or off from action center.Action Center ButtonAction Center

To set focus assist rules, open the “Action Center” from Taskbar and right click on Focus assist icon. Next, click on “Go To Settings”. Next from Focus Assist settings set rules as per your requirement.Focus Assist Settings

Pick up Where you Left Off with Timeline

Microsoft Windows 10 Timeline lets users to view activity history across devices. So either you were working on laptop or on any other device, it lets you pick up from any device where you left off last time. To know more read How to use Windows 10 Timeline.

Nearby Sharing

Windows 10 Nearby Sharing lets you share documents, websites links, photos, videos and much more to near by Windows 10 devices using Bluetooth or WiFi. To share, Nearby Sharing feature must be turned on for both Windows 10 devices from which you are sharing as well the device you want to share with.

Before sharing something make sure you have turned on “Nearby Sharing” feature as well as Bluetooth on both devices. To turn on Nearby Sharing, click on Action bar icon on the Taskbar. From Action Center, click on Nearby sharing icon to turn it on or off.

To share any document, photos, videos right click on it and select “Share”. Next from share dialog box, choose device you want to share with.Document Share

On the device to which you are sharing, when you gets notification of item being shared, accept and save to your device.

For sharing websites links, open link in Microsoft Edge that you want to share and click on Share icon from top bar of the browser.Links Share

Night Light

Windows 10 Night light was added in Microsoft Windows 10 Fall creator update. Night light makes display emit blue light which can help you in keeping up at night. It also uses warmer colors that helps to sleep. Night light helps to reduce eyestrain giving you comfort while working in dark. Windows 10 also allows to set color temperature in dark as per your need. You can easily turn on Night light manually or schedule to turn on automatically.

Night light can be turned on from Action center or Night light Settings. To Turn on Night Light, click on Action Center icon on the Taskbar and click or tap on Night Light. Click on it again when you want to turn it off.

You can also set time from Night light settings to schedule Night light. To access Night light settings, either right click on night light from Action center and select “Go to Settings” or Navigate to Settings> System> Display.Night LightNight Light Settings

Windows Ink Workspace is way to draw or write with digital pen or with your finger tips on touch screen devices.
